Hello I'm Berhane a Sophomore at Knox College from Chicago. Academically, I am creating a self-designed major surrounding the studying the role that aesthetics and creative cultural practice play in societal formation and human interaction, ostensibly merging the fields of anthropology, art history, and philosophy. I view the concocting and constructing of soundmaps as a tool from which to not just learn about a community (not simply a tool for surveillance) but as a opportunity to gather sounds in order to create an interface from which individuals can empathize with the "galesburgian" experience. Anscombe explains perception as being the totality of sense-data, while we have collected simply the aural elements of the sense-scape (with a map attatched with some visual stimuli e.g. photos) I believe this soundmap grants us an ear and an eye to see and hear the Galesburg and Knox College experience.
